Education: Chiropractic education consists of 5 academic years, one of which is a supervised internship. The basic science education of chiropractors is comparable to that of medical doctors. In fact, we spend more time on anatomy, neurology, and orthopedics than medical students spend on these subjects.
Testing: In Pennsylvania, Chiropractors are required to pass a National Board Exam made up of four tests taken over a three-year period, as well as a state law exam. Two references are also required for licensure.
History: Chiropractors around the world have been helping patients since 1895. Millions of people have had great results with this natural, gentle, effective care. It has been accepted by academics, medical doctors, insurance companies and government agencies.
Research: Research in neurology, anatomy, engineering, and orthopedics bears out the premise that chiropractic makes sense. Clinical studies show that chiropractic works. It is the preferred treatment for most low back pain, and there is substantial evidence for the treatment of many other conditions.
Medical Referrals: Many Chiropractors, including Dr. Smith, have developed referral relationships with Medical Doctors. Approximately 10% of Dr. Smith's patients are referred by medical doctors. He regularly contacts medical doctors when necessary to update them on the status of treatment. This allows for comprehensive care and assures that you get appropriate treatment.
